Intermediate Performance Ensemble

If you play the violin, viola, cello or double bass, have been playing for a year or more and would like join a chamber orchestra why not join the East London Late Starters Orchestra Intermediate Performance Ensemble.

Since its inception in 2006, the Intermediate Performance Ensemble (IPE) has performed music by a wide range of composers including Mozart, Elgar, Gershwin, Boyce, Purcell, Cole Porter and Handel. The IPE was set up partly to provide additional playing opportunities for members of the East London Late Starters’ Orchestra (ELLSO) but also so that members could to continue playing if for some reason they were no longer able to come to ELLSO on a Saturday morning.

Membership of the IPE is open to all players ELLSO stage 2 and above and also to other players of a similar level who have not previously been part of ELLSO.

The Orchestra rehearses on a Monday evening between 7.15pm and 9.30pm at St Mary with Holy Trinity Church in Bow, East London. Each term runs for 10 weeks and culminates in a performance at the ELLSO Concert. There are usually 4 terms each year which includes a term which runs during the traditional summer holiday period. The orchestra includes players with a wide range of experience and aims to develop the ensemble playing skills of all its members while at the same time enjoying the music that it plays. In short, we have a really good time!

The IPE has a strong inclusive ethos and recognises that everybody has a different starting point when they join. There is strong support for everyone, not only from our conductor, Nick Coote, but also from the other players in the orchestra. If necessary, simplified parts can be provided.

The subscription for each 10 week term and concert is £75. There is also an annual ELLSO membership fee of £15, which will enable you to participate in other ELLSO activities as well if you wish.

If you would like to join then please contact Andrew Sargent: 020 7925 5504 (work) 020 8981 3980 (home) or at andrew.sargent@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk You are most welcome to come along for a free session and see if it suits you.
