Membership of ELLSO

ELLSO Membership lasts for one year and runs from 13th September each year until 12th September in  the next

Membership of ELLSO confers the right:

  • To take part in any of the the activities for which they qualify, provided that there is a suitable vacancy
  • To receive group coaching appropriate for their ability, delivered by professionally qualified tutors in a non-competitive, friendly and supportive environment while attending such an activity
  • To access website content specifically for members only
  • To vote, either in person or by proxy, upon any resolutions properly proposed at a General Meeting of the organisation.

Membership of ELLSO entails the following obligations:

  • The liability of members is limited
  • Every member of the charity promises, if the charity is dissolved while he or she is a member or within 12 months after he, she or they ceases to be a member, to contribute such sum (not exceeding £10) as may be demanded of him or her towards the payment of the debts and liabilities of the charity incurred before he or she ceases to be a member, and of the costs, charges and expenses of winding up, and the adjustments of the rights of the contributaries among themselves.

Each term every player agrees to a set of guidelines:

  • Players will receive group coaching appropriate for their ability, delivered by professionally qualified tutors in a non-competitive, friendly and supportive environment.
  • The positive experience of the players and the success of the orchestra is based on everyone's commitment- regular weekly attendance is expected. Before signing the agreement, each player is asked to make sure that they have no other commitments that would prevent them from attending most of the sessions in the term.
  • The handbook contains guidelines on orchestra etiquette, to which all are expected to adhere.
  • ELLSO is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among its members, staff and volunteers. We expect everyone at ELLSO to abide by a code of conduct whereby all people are treated with dignity and respect, valuing diversity.

Saturday Players:-

  • ELLSO strives to provide the most appropriate music tuition and playing experience to the maximum number of participants.
  • Placing in Saturday teaching groups is decided by discussion between a player and the tutors concerned, based on the ELLSO teaching programme published in the handbook and on the playing standard that  they have reached.
  • Members are expected to accept the advice of their tutors regarding which technique group is suitable for them.
